Effective June 1, 2018, there was a change in our After Hours service in Dryden and Ignace. Tikinagan CFS provides after hours services to the families they serve from the Treaty 9 and 5 areas. Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services continues to provide services to all Treaty 3 band members. Kenora-Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services provides service to all other families. If you do not know which agency to contact please call any of the agencies and we will determine child safety and who the information should be directed to.
Effective Sept 30, 2016 there was a change in our After Hours service in Dryden, Kenora and Ignace. AAFS provides After Hours to all Treaty 3 band members. KRRCFS will be providing After Hours service to all other families, including those who would receive services from Tikinagan CFS.
Effective April 1, 2016, all band members of Northwest Angle #37 living on the community and off the community within the Kenora and Rainy River Districts started to receive Child Welfare services from Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services.
All band members of Shoal Lake #39 living on the community and off the community within the Kenora and Rainy River Districts are now receiving Child Welfare services from Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services.

The jurisdiction of KRRDCFS is set by geographic boundaries and Service Agreements with neighboring Aboriginal child welfare agencies. It is bounded by the Manitoba border on the West; Red Lake and Sioux Lookout to the north; English River to the east; and the American border to the south.
A Service Agreement with Tikinagan Child and Family Services allowing Tikinagan to provide child welfare services to all their band members living within the municipalities of Dryden, Ignace, and surrounding areas has taken effect on December 15, 2014.
In the Sioux Lookout area, we have a Service Agreement with Tikinagan Child and Family Services (2005) to provide service to the “… children and families of the Treaty Nine and Five First Nations, who reside within the Township of Sioux Lookout and the surrounding unorganized area.”
A Service Agreement with Weechi-it-te-win Family Services (WFS) allowing WFS to provide child welfare services to all their band members living off reserve within KRRDCFS’s jurisdiction has taken effect following a formal signing ceremony on December 6, 2013. The most significant change is the referral of child protection concerns regarding band members of the 10 First Nations communities located within the Rainy River District. These referrals will now be made directly to WFS. These 10 First Nations communities are:
- Anishinaabeg of Naongashiing (Big Island)First Nation
- Big Grassy First Nation
- Couchiching First Nation
- Lac La Croix First Nation
- Mitaanjigaming (Stanjikoming) First Nation
- Naicatchewenin (North West Bay) First Nation
- Nigigoonsiminikaaning (Red Gut Bay) First Nation
- Ojibways of Onigaming (Sabaskong Bay) First Nation
- Rainy River (Manitou Rapids) First Nation
- Seine River First Nation

If there is uncertainty as to which agency should be contacted, we would be pleased to accept your call and direct your information to the appropriate agency or provide any service that may be required at the time of referral and redirect to the appropriate agency once the immediate safety of the child is assured.
